Hello,
If you’re reading this, you may be curious about what The Post Companion is and how it came to exist. Perhaps you’re simply wondering what kind of letter will arrive in your mailbox.
I hope this one offers a small glimpse.
In many ways, this project was born from lived experience.
In 2010, I survived a suicide attempt. Life has grown in many ways since then, but like many people, I still move through seasons where negative thoughts and isolation quietly return.
I know what it feels like to believe you are invisible.
To feel disconnected in a way that seems total.
Over time, I began to notice that connection doesn’t always arrive in dramatic ways. Sometimes it appears through very small gestures — the steady companionship of animals, a thoughtful note, or a simple reminder that someone is thinking of you.
Those small interruptions can matter more than we realize.
The idea for The Post Companion began to take shape one afternoon at the dog park.
On Valentine’s Day, Ed sat down beside me and pulled a red envelope from his pocket. With genuine delight, he explained that his dog had received a letter — from a neighbor’s cat.
The neighbor’s cat often wanders over to play with his large dog. Someone nearby had mailed two handwritten cards and signed them simply:
“The Cat.”
They live next door.
They didn’t need to send it.
But they did.
The man was completely tickled by the gesture, and the rest of us listening were too.
Later, he shared that he is living with a terminal cancer diagnosis. Yet he speaks about it with remarkable peace and contentment. He doesn’t like people to fuss over him. Instead, he continues to show up at the dog park with quiet strength — reminding many of us how a life fully lived can carry its own kind of calm resolution.
That small letter from “The Cat” stayed with me.
It was such a simple act of kindness, but it created a moment of joy and connection that reached far beyond just one person.
The Post Companion grew from that same understanding.
It is a paid monthly letter subscription created for people navigating distance, isolation, or life transitions — whether that’s a loved one living far away, someone newly divorced, an elderly parent living alone, a transplant far from family, a veteran adjusting to civilian life, or anyone moving through a quieter season of reflection.
Each letter offers poetry, reflection, and thoughtful prompts designed to sit beside someone — not to fix or advise, but to gently remind them that connection can still arrive.
Sometimes quietly.
Sometimes anonymously.
Sometimes exactly when it’s needed.
Because even a small letter can travel a very long way.
Until next month.

The Post Companion is a monthly letter 'subscription' (We offer single letter options, 3-6-12 month options as well, we do not blindly bill you) designed to sit beside you — or someone you care about.
Each letter offers a quiet space away from the pressures of modern life. As a simple promise, every Post Companion letter is intentionally free of sex, religion, and politics.
It’s a thoughtful gift for yourself or another — a meaningful alternative to flowers or temporary deliveries. Each envelope carries poetry, reflection, and small reminders that connection can travel farther than we think.
And sometimes, it’s simply nice to receive something in the mail that isn’t a bill or an advertisement.
Each Monthly Delivery Includes:
• An original letter, written new each month
• A short poem or reflective passage
• A thoughtful prompt for journaling or personal reflection
• A small paper good (bookmark, mini print, or creative insert)
• Optional gift notes when sending to someone else
• A quiet moment of connection delivered through the mail
For certain moments, a Post Companion letter can be written with someone specific in mind.
Each letter is created in the same spirit — reflective, calm, and without expectation — and sent directly to the recipient.
Sometimes it’s enough to let someone know they were thought of.
Whether sent to yourself or someone you care about, The Post Companion offers a simple way to share something meaningful when words — or distance — make it difficult.
Quiet connection, delivered.

Augustina Kistner is the creator of The Post Companion, a monthly letter built on the quiet belief that small gestures of connection can matter more than we realize.
Her writing focuses on the kinds of moments that are easy to overlook — a simple act of kindness, a moment of reflection, or the steady presence of another person in an ordinary day. Through letters and essays, she explores how small actions can leave lasting impressions, even if they are never widely seen.
Before creating The Post Companion, Augustina spent years working in environments where careful observation mattered — including construction, commercial driving, farming and damage claims. That background shaped her attention to detail and her belief that care often shows up in quiet, consistent ways rather than dramatic ones.
At home, life is shared with a group of loyal animals who serve as daily reminders that connection doesn’t have to be complicated to be meaningful.
The Post Companion is an extension of that perspective — thoughtful, tangible, and grounded in presence.
